Spend two days in the Woudhuizer Bos forest, Holland, photographing gorillas, orang-utans, bonobos and numerous species of free-roaming primates in uniquely natural settings without wire fences or glass partitions. This is one of the world’s best locations for primate photography and the opportunities are endless. Great photography is coupled with expert tuition in small groups, backed up by quality accommodation and all-inclusive comfortable transportation from the UK. There simply is no other primate photography workshop to compare.
In the heart of the Woudhuizer Bos forest, a short drive from Amsterdam, there is a very special haven for some of the world’s most endearing and enigmatic primates, including gorillas, orang-utans and bonobos (dwarf chimpanzees) - in total around thirty species of primate from the new and old worlds.
Uniquely, many of the monkeys and lemurs here roam freely around the sanctuary, mingling with their human visitors. Elsewhere, the Park is organised into themed areas - the Madagascar and Atlas Mountains zones - and island habitats, where views of larger apes are unrestricted and unhindered - there are no wire mesh fences or glass partitions to get in our way.
Photographic opportunities are endless and we make the most of the unrestricted environment to get unique close-to and natural-looking images of the family of around twenty gorillas, inquisitive orang-utans, cheeky bonobos and the 200+ other primates who call this park their home.
Our adventure begins in Harwich, where we make the overnight ferry crossing in twin-share cabins to the Hook of Holland. On arrival, we head directly to the Park for a full day of photography of the free roaming primates between set feeding sessions of the larger great apes. There is plenty of time to exploit the natural environments of the themed areas, follow the treetop canopy walk, and the raised boardwalks. Photographic tuition on an informal one-to-one basis is available throughout the day.
Overnight we stay in a nearby hotel, where we can chat about photo technique and share experiences of the day. After a good nights sleep, the following day we return to the Park for another full day of photography before heading back to the Hook of Holland to catch the return ferry home.
This course is suitable for all levels of photographer from novice to advanced amateur. A DSLR camera is recommended.
