As one of its first projects, the Animals on the Edge NGO, founded as a direct result of Chris’s work documenting endangered species, is to fund the first stage of a tiger habitat creation project in Kanha National Park, central India. The Park is one of India’s primary tiger preserves but large tracts of its land are unsuited to tigers due to poor water distribution. Working in the Bhaisanghat and Supkhar Core Zones, the project involves creating a network of waterholes that will lead to an in increase in the population of prey species. The availability of water and suitable prey will encourage tigers into the area. Talking from the field in India, Chris commented, “It’s a hugely exciting project that is one of many small steps towards increasing available tiger habitat in India, and proof that wildlife photography, when directed appropriately, can have a direct and positive impact on conservation.”
