“I’d been trying for a couple of years to get a shot like this, mostly using remote cameras, but had failed. In the end, I concluded I needed to be holding the camera to get the shot but achieving that was more problematic. I was told about a game capture happening in Zimbabwe which gave me the perfect opportunity. I had a pit dug, around 4x4x4 feet, and, once inside covered with railway sleepers that were then completely covered over in earth to hide all trace of the pit. It felt like being buried alive.”
